Authentic ways to report users and servers on Discord

Here are some required steps to report a harasser, spammer, or someone who sends offensive messages or talks in an abusive way. You can also report the whole server in case of unwanted and unethical activities. Let's see how to do it.

Make sure that the individual is violating community guidelines

Before reporting someone, make sure that the individual is talking or sending messages against community guidelines. In the case of the following activities, you have the right to report.

Vulgar communications

Spam messages

Violating IP rights

Encouraging suicidal and self-harm activities

Spreading malicious links and viruses

If the communication on Discord doesn't come under the categories mentioned above, you don't need to report the user directly to Discord. You can inform other members of the chat group about that person's conduct and ask for appropriate actions. If you are the server or the group's admin, you can block or remove that user. Read Discord's community guidelines for detailed knowledge about prohibitions.

Use developer mode and find the relevant ID codes

Instead of only hitting the report button on mobile and web platforms, take advantage of ID codes. ID codes are used by team members of Discord to locate messages that are against community guidelines. Go through the below steps to get ID codes.

Tap on the Gear icon located near your name and choose the Appearance tab.

Find the Advanced section and turn on the Developer Mode.

Remember to find three types of ID codes.

Now visit the message and right-click on the user's name.

Choose Copy ID and do copy the credential and keep it safe. Rename the copied number as "user ID."

This ID will always be the same if the user changes the name.

Copy the ID again by clicking on the message. Now you find an ID number. Save this ID number as a message ID.

In the end, access the server icon and right-click on it. The third time, you have to select Copy ID and save it.

Send the report

Finally, you have to send the report through Discord's Trust & Safety request center. To send a report, use the below steps.

Provide your email address and choose the report type from drop-down options.

Type a subject and explain situations, happened to you, and mention the three necessary ID codes in the Description box.

If you have captured screenshots of the message, you can attach the file in the Attachments section.

Now send the report.
